About Hypnotherapy & Hypnosis

The information in this website is designed to give you a brief insight into the power of the subconscious mind, and how that power can be harnessed and used to bring about amazing beneficial changes to assist you in achieving more of the incredible potential that we all possess

Hypno-Psychotherapy is finally shrugging off the undeservedly poor reputation created by the apparent mystical powers of hypnotists in years gone by. People are now more educated and can find out for themselves how powerful the technique really is. There are hundreds if not thousands of books on the subject, most of them written by esteemed experts of the art.

Yet there are still people that believe (erroneously) that “a click of the fingers” by a hypnotist means surrendering control of their conscious will and being made to do or perform acts against their will! Hypnosis is not ‘mind control’, it is the skill of communication and language by the therapist, and the intelligence, imagination and co-operation of the willing client.

Hypnosis is used for exactly the same purpose each and every time it is induced: to gain access to the powerful inner mind, the non critical subconscious. The use of hypnosis is a drug free process of quietening down that part of your mind that constantly talks to you.

Once this is achieved direct access to the subconscious is available, but rest assured, you are still very much, and in most cases, more aware of what is being said.

Hypnosis can be induced in many different ways but the most common method in use by most therapists is by guided imagery of calmness and peace, combined with the use of visualisation that produces a profound state of relaxation and concentration.

1. Experienced Hypnosis before?
That is quite a bold statement to make, but read on and I will explain what I mean by proving to you that you have experienced hypnosis before. It is important to remember that hypnosis is just an altered state of awareness and that we have all experienced this state many times before. For example; when youre watching your t.v. and you find yourself “staring into space”, when you have been driving and realise that you cannot remember the last few miles of your journey, becoming so absorbed in a book/hobby that you lost all track of time, etc. Also, we all pass through this altered state just before we fall asleep and just before we awake. These, and I am sure you can think of many more, are examples of an altered state of awareness.

2. What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Therapy?
NLP is a method used to maximize potential, focused on the how the mind works, how people communicate and patterns of behaviour that individuals use to achieve their objectives. Working with an NLP Practitioner can help you to enhance the way you act and feel in most aspects of your life.

3. What is Analytical Therapy?
This form of therapy can produce outstanding results for people whose symptoms arise from deep-seated emotional or psychological origins. Analysis discovers the originating cause, that is producing the effect.
Cause: an emotionally charged event in your life that was so fearful or shocking that because of your immaturity or inexperience at that time, became hidden or repressed from your conscious mind (the analytical part).

Effect : a subconscious “reminder” of an emotionally charged event that can express itself as an internal anxiety or symptom/problem.
Once that same event has been viewed by your now, mature and experienced conscious mind, your reaction to it is more rational and logical, thereby allowing the symptom to be dealt with, and permanently resolved.

4. What is Clinical therapy?
Everything about you begins first as a thought, which then produces an action. When you change the thought, you change the action. After hypnosis has been induced, the power of your subconscious mind is used to concentrate and focus on new thoughts, words and images that establish new habits, attitudes and behaviour. With hypnosis, focusing on the required changes becomes easy as continued reinforcement becomes automatic response. Suggestion therapy is primarily used in simple cases; Smoking Cessation, Nail Biting, Exam/Test Nerves, Weight Reduction*, Confidence Boosting, Public Speaking, Sports Enhancement, Stress, etc. This is a very straightforward method that consistently produces favourable results.

*Suggestion Therapy for weight reduction is for those people who would like to reduce their weight by only 18-20lbs. Otherwise please see the panel pages on Analytical Hypnotherapy

5. Counselling skills.
Counselling is a process that involves skills of caring, listening and prompting. It is a way of relating to another person, enabling that person to explore his or her thoughts, feelings and behaviours, in order to reach a clearer self-understanding. That person is then helped to find and use his or her strengths so that they can cope more effectively with their life by making appropriate decisions or by taking relevant action. Essentially counselling is a purposeful relationship in which one person helps another to help themselves. The aim of counselling is to provide help and support by the aid of an understanding listener and an empathic relationship between the client and therapist.
